Working as a wedding photographer in the heart of the Peak District means I get to photograph weddings at some truly beautiful wedding venues. The gorgeous Eyam Hall is one of these. This gorgeous Jacobean Manor was originally built as a wedding present, and now it is the perfect venue for relaxed and informal outdoor weddings, as well as still being a family home.
Autumn Wedding at Eyam Hall
Lucy and Matt’s September Eyam Hall wedding was a treat for me, as Eyam Hall is just 15 minutes from me! It was a beautiful, sunny autumn day and this was a fun wedding to capture on both camera AND film – yes, I do video too! Here’s Lucy and Matt’s…
It was a lovely day for the wedding, which began with Lucy getting ready in Eyam Hall’s dressing room. Hair and makeup were done by Lucy Elliott and Paige Wild, and Lucy chose a modern off-the-shoulder dress. There was a touching gift from Matt to Lucy while she got ready, consisting of some lovely polaroid shots of them in a box with a note reading ‘Chapters to be continued…’

Outdoor Wedding Ceremony
Lucy and Matt told me they’ve been together 10 years, and they’re just the sweetest couple. Their outdoor wedding ceremony was followed by canapes, drinks and lawn games on Eyam Hall’s grounds in the September sun, and it got quite competitive between Team Bride and Team Groom! The outdoor space is great for natural wedding photography that’s all about capturing natural moments of the happy couple and their friends and family. I had fun capturing everyone playing giant noughts and crosses and croquet whilst the guitarist played.

When it was time to move inside for the wedding breakfast, Eyam Hall’s fabulous brickwork interiors really came into their own and allowed Lucy and Matt’s eucalyptus theme to shine. There were lots of personal little touches in place for the guests to enjoy, including a polaroid camera for them to take pictures on and a ‘bucket list’ station where guests could suggest an adventure for the couple! As they got engaged in Edinburgh, they used city names to mark the tables – guests were seated all over the world, from Venice to New York!

It was such a perfect day that in the evening I suggested they move their first dance outside into the courtyard, instead of staying inside. It really paid off as the images and film were stunning! I’ll always let you know on your wedding day if I think we could change things up to get an even better shot; these images are now a beautiful memory for Lucy and Matt. Their first dance was to ‘Shut Up and Dance’ by Walk The Moon, and they stayed in the courtyard with their guests long into the night dancing and enjoying the guitar music!

When I spoke to Lucy and Matt about why they chose me to capture their wedding day, they said they loved that I captured all the little moments and nothing was staged. I always try to find the touching little details that you’ll look back on fondly, and capture you as you are – in newly wedded bliss! They told me they weren’t a ‘posing’ couple, and I’ll never force you into uncomfortable positions for your wedding pictures. When we take ‘couple portraits’ they’ll feel natural and candid – there’s nothing stuffy about how I work!
