As a Double Tree Hilton Photographer, I absolutely love the story of how Kate and Rob met, it had me in fits of giggles when they told me and it shows they really are meant to be together.

They matched on Tinder, not so unusual of course, however due to the distance limits they’d both set they would never have actually shown up for each other if Rob hadn’t taken on a delivery shift to help his Dad out that day. He ended up around the corner from Kate’s house and scrolled through Tinder as he waited for the wagon to be offloaded and matched with the lovely Kate. It was fate!

After a long time messaging back and forth, they eventually decided to meet up. Rob picked Kate up. In an American car. Meaning Kate ended up opening the driver’s side door by mistake and almost ended up on his lap! They then headed to an outdoor cinema and couldn’t tune the radio in. There was no audio! They had to sit in their car and pretend to watch the film!

It was a real comedy of errors that night, however, they knew there was a spark there and decided to try again, repeating the date. This time it all went to plan. After an amazing night, they quickly became a couple.

In December 2018 they travelled to Iceland, went for a walk, and discovered a ‘wishing tree’. Kate wished “to be Mrs. Hawkins one day”, not knowing that Rob had a ring in his pocket and was planning to propose! He popped the question on a frozen lake, Kate said yes and that’s how I ended up at the Double Tree Hilton in Chester to photograph and film their beautiful wedding.

Winter weddings at the Double Tree Hilton, Chester

Located just outside Chester (one of my favourite cities) the Double Tree Hilton is a stunning, luxurious wedding venue. It’s made up of an 18th-century manor house, a Grade II listed conservatory, and converted stables. All have been restored and given contemporary touches. With 12 acres of grounds as well as a Victorian Walled Garden there are plenty of opportunities for amazing wedding portraits. It really is a fab venue and I loved spending the day there with Kate and Rob.

They held their wedding exactly 4 years to the day they got engaged. The ceremony room looked so warm and inviting with strings of fairy lights and garlands of firs and pine cones, a couple of Christmas trees, and a beautiful floral backdrop. You can’t beat a Christmassy wedding!

Rob was in great spirits as he laughed and joked with guests ahead of the ceremony and, before long, everyone took their seats and Kate walked down the aisle. She looked amazing and Rob was lost for words when he set eyes on her.

After the ceremony, we took some family group photos in front of the Christmas tree, before I stole Kate and Rob away for a few portraits. I didn’t keep them away from the party for long, they were soon back with their guests whilst I captured all the table details and decorations. The room had been turned around for the wedding breakfast and it looked fab. There were so many beautiful touches from photographs of loved ones to snowglobes and mini Christmas trees. It was a winter wonderland!

Kate and Rob are an amazing couple, always laughing and joking together. I had the best day with them and found it so hard to pick some highlights from the photos. I had so many favourites!
